Violet Magic (VM) is a RI-based literary zine founded by BIPOC artists Jayson Rodriguez and Laila Ibrahim, dedicated to creating an accessible publishing outlet for local BIPOC writers ages 13–20.”

Jayson is a Queer, Trans, Afro-Carribean senior at The Met High School in Providence, Rhode Island. Outside of being a student Jayson is a photo based artist and community organizer born and raised in Providence. He is the co-founder of Violet Magic, a RI-based literary magazine focused on creating accessible publishing and writing resource outlets for local BIPOC writers aged 13–20. Jayson’s work tends to explore topics such as love, memory, Blackness and the idea of reimagination. He has been recognized by The National Youngarts Foundation, The Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery, Brown University’s Latinx Literary Magazine, and more. In his free time Jayson likes learning new instruments in less than a day, writing poems in his head, and taking naps, and regretting them later on.
